Born in the mid 80's and a product of the ’90s, producer Erick Frias AKA Progeny, perspective lands right in the center of the old guard and new. With his ethereal finger tapping out sound waves that tip their high hats to producers like Alias of Anticon. Progeny’s sounds are also innovative in their own sense encompassing the big small city feel of his hometown San Antonio, TX.
San Antonio also happens to be where Progeny helped form CHISME with his collaborator R.E.L, where they have sculpted an indelible duo lauded by many. Including FAKE FOUR INC. anti-boss Ceschi, who signed the near decade-old rapper/producer combo to the respective label several years ago.
Outside the realm of CHISME, Progeny has released work with boom-bap specialist EVOLVE with the eerily named GHOST PALACE. Creating a catalog of its own under that group's pseudonym, GP takes you on a storytelling journey of yesteryear that has been seemingly lost in today's cloud rap atmosphere. Heron is a group that was formed across coasts, the third coast to the pacific northwest to be exact. Offering up a palette that can't be defined by tastemakers, with the music-making haven Radio Concuss out of Seattle being the core of the machine. And Rob Castro from Grayskull, who also pulls double duty as the bassist for GP. You can rest assured more tempestuous tonal tunes will be coming from the Emerald City.
Soultru & Progeny is a project that formed one night in Iowa with hip hop crooner Soultru. The meeting came from the introduction from the aforementioned Ceschi. Little did they know an album would be constructed for Ceschi’s FAKE FOUR label under the guise of a 2018 FREECEMBER release. Inarguably one of the best soul recordings released then, it made its way onto an album of the year lists aplenty. Regardless of the best genre, it left a legacy behind that truly can't be denied by true connoisseurs’ ears.
